Zara's Story: Vigilance Throughout My Journey "Never in a million years did I imagine the incredible impact a breast cancer diagnosis would have on my life. I was always the 'behind-the-scenes' person encouraging and supporting others but never wanting to be the focus of attention, yet I found myself thrust into becoming a person with extreme courage and strength I never thought I possessed." Read the rest of Zara's story. African-American Women Experience Unique Survivorship Outcomes A study published in Cancer Nursing found that African-American women with breast cancer reported more fatigue, worse hot flashes and worse sleep quality than African-American women without cancer. Yet overall, both groups of women reported nearly the same level of social support, emotional distress and life satisfaction.
“Before I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, I was perusing my pathology report from my core biopsy. Somehow, since of course I am not a doctor, some of the wording on this report made me think that I was going to be diagnosed with Her2Neu breast cancer. Since I had friends who already had that diagnosis I was told, several times, to watch the movie Living Proof. So of course, my husband and I watched the movie on Netflix within days. We thought the movie was extremely informative regarding the process of clinical trials and how the process is not only lengthy, it is frustrating for the researchers and doctors involved, and the trials can be very disappointing.”
